Continuation of Hanseatic traditions

At first glance, the SOPHIE appears restrained in its external appearance and in its interplay with the surrounding buildings. However, the decision not to make a grand architectural gesture is entirely intentional.

On the one hand, the architect Prof. Mirjana Markovic has ensured that the building blends in harmoniously with its surroundings, while on the other, the building radiates typical Hanseatic understatement in its form and materiality and also makes reference to building traditions in Harvestehude.

The white clinker brick façade is a fine example of this. The use of this natural material, which has been tried and tested for centuries, impresses with its robustness and durability.

The particularly high, floor-to-ceiling windows give the façade its slender appearance and rhythm. This design principle is broken up by projecting components, balconies and loggias. The balustrades of the balconies and French balconies, designed with stylistically appropriate floral motifs, serve this design purpose, as does the landscaping concept.

The whole is therefore more than the sum of its parts and more than initially meets the eye. This is particularly true of the most invisible part of the SOPHIE, the underground garage. It offers exceptionally bright and spacious parking spaces.
